Fun A Day Dundee 2018

img_20171205_123606.jpgDundee has been participating in the Fun-A-Day project since 2011. The premise is simple: pick a project (take a photograph, make the bed, draw a picture, bake a cake, etc) and do it every day in January, then show your work the following month in a big group exhibition. Fun A Day started off as a way to encourage artists to keep each other motivated, but over the years, we have seen an increase in anyone and everyone making this project their own.

Examples of FADD projects: 1. Faces created with cereal in the morning (a fun one for the kids), 2. Piece of a painting every day, 3. Experiments with vegan baking every day, 4. Walking around the local area and taking photographs, 5. Sculptured experiments with found objects, 6. Weaving, 7. Sewing patchwork, 8. Illustrations/ comics, 9. Documentation of travels, 10. Handwritten diary, 11. Reading a book, etc…!

I have taken part in FADD for three years, while managing the project for two. I take part in Fun A Day because it really gives my year a boost, a head start on the path of creativity, while engaging with creative people, some of whom found confidence in their creativity through the project.
I am still undecided on what project I will draw up from myself this year, mainly because I have many ideas I’d love to give a go…

What’s brilliant about FAD, is it is open to anyone. Any age, and occupation, any background… you don’t have to be an artist to take part. I think extending the opportunity to everyone (to network, share work, have the freedom to create and have fun, with the promise of an open exhibition) can be a brilliant opportunity. To feel around and give light to something you enjoy, whether it be a hobby you want to spend more time on, to share your artistic flare with the public, or to try something completely new.

It’s why I encourage everyone around me to get involved, I reap the benefits, and so do many of our participants. Each year at the exhibition I always hear many people sharing their regret on not getting involved… so here’s your early warning! 😉 See you in 2018…
